Kahn commented on discussions about German national team captain Joshua Kimmich, which have been reignited by recent Nations League matches, speaking on RTL/Sky Sports. He said: "Coach Klopp made a very interesting comment about Joshua Kimmich. 'I want to see what a team looks like without a leader.' From Joshua Kimmich's perspective, I personally don't think that sounds positive."

Kahn explained what Klopp's remarks meant: "He wants to see how much a particular player might slow down the team's pace. Such situations do exist." He also told Klopp: "You shouldn't make such comments publicly because it can, to some extent, undervalue a player."
