Recently, Thierry Henry had a conversation with New York City Mayor Eric Adams, reminiscing about the unforgettable night of his loan return to Arsenal and expressing his love for New York.

Adams asked, "In 2012, you said New York was the greatest city in the world. What led you to that conclusion?" Henry replied, "My personality is very similar to New Yorkers. I've been coming to New York since 1995, and New Yorkers never hide where they stand, which I really appreciate. This city brings together people from all over the world; New York is a microcosm of the world—you can find anything you want in Queens, and Brooklyn and the Bronx each have their own unique character. New York best represents what the world looks like."

Adams said, "That reminds me of my neighborhood, just on a larger scale." Henry added, "New York has over 8 million people, and you can find a sense of home here while also experiencing its style, attitude, and energy. You can recognize a New Yorker by the way they walk. I love this city and always will. It will always be part of my life because my son was born here."

Speaking about his first visit to New York in 1995, Henry recalled, "I got lost. Every street corner reminded me of a movie. New York is the city that never sleeps—the hustle and bustle, ambulances, police cars—elsewhere you might not be able to tolerate it, but in New York, it's all part of the fabric. It's a way of life, just like Nas's song 'N.Y. State of Mind' captures—it's a lifestyle that isn't for everyone, but it's definitely for me."

Adams mentioned that Henry had previously said he missed Caribbean food and asked if he had found any favorite restaurants. Henry admitted, "I haven't found a restaurant with the exact Guadeloupe or Martinique style, but I found a Jamaican one with similar preparation techniques. Our cooking there is closer to Colombian cuisine, so I often go to Queens for it."

The conversation shifted to Arsenal, and Adams shared his memory: "You came back on loan and played in the FA Cup, that goal..." Henry said emotionally, "Oh my God, I'm getting goosebumps. That was the first time in my life I scored a goal at club level as a true fan. If you've followed my career, after I score, I'm usually angry or composed, but that time I completely let loose. It wasn't until I left Arsenal that I realized what it truly meant to be an Arsenal fan—I'd never felt so connected to a stadium. Nothing could surpass that night. I never got to say goodbye to the Arsenal fans on the pitch; after the match, I stayed in the locker room, refusing to leave until staff said, 'Henry, I need to go home.' Normally, players leave after scoring, but that time I savored every moment. I don't know if I deserved it, but that night I allowed myself to be a fan." Adams responded, "You gave us a lifetime of memories." Henry said, "I still get goosebumps talking about it. It was a special moment."

Finally, Henry said to Adams, "Thank you for everything you do for New York. Please continue to support Arsenal—we need it." Adams replied, "It's a deal."
