On the programme, Roy Keane disagreed with Ian Wright's view that Emiliano Martinez's transfer from Aston Villa to Chelsea would help The Blues "reach new heights".

The former Manchester United captain said: "I'm not sure if this is a good signing for Chelsea."

"I know they definitely needed a new goalkeeper, but I have to say, he conceded too many goals at Aston Villa last season. I acknowledge he has strong personality and presence, but I'm still not sure if he's the right choice. He's always pushing the ball into the six-yard box, which is very dangerous."

While Keane expressed doubts about Martinez, his former Manchester United teammate Nicky Butt called the goalkeeper "the signing of the century".

The former English midfielder said on the "The Good, The Bad & The Football" podcast: "Emiliano Martinez could be the signing of the century."

"For just £7 million, you're signing a goalkeeper who has played in multiple World Cup finals, won the World Cup, and performed excellently at Aston Villa."

"I think Chelsea will be in the title race this season. Although I'm not sure if they can win it with their current defensive capabilities and goal concessions, they will certainly be among the top contenders."

Paul Scholes also praised Chelsea's signing of Martinez, and Martinez's arrival led to Sanchez leaving Stamford Bridge.

The Spanish goalkeeper had previously attracted interest from English clubs, European clubs, and Saudi Arabian clubs, and ultimately joined Como, under the management of former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fàbregas, on the final day of the transfer window.

Scholes said: "Clearly Chelsea desperately needed a goalkeeper at that time, but how did Aston Villa sell Emiliano Martinez for only £7.5 million? I would consider £20 million cheap."

"Although he conceded three goals in his debut, over the course of the season, he will certainly save Chelsea more points than Robert Sanchez."

"He's a confident person who can bring confidence to the team. He's the type of goalkeeper where you look at him and think, 'I like this guy.'"

Martinez conceded three goals in Chelsea's debut, but Chelsea ultimately secured a dramatic 4-3 victory against Brighton.

The Argentine goalkeeper will hope to put in a better defensive display this Sunday when Chelsea travel to face Premier League champions Arsenal.

Like Chelsea, Arsenal maintained a perfect record in their opening two matches – defeating Coventry in the first round and securing a narrow victory over Aston Villa away on Monday night.
