After Arsenal's 0-3 away defeat to Brighton in the fifth round of the Premier League, former Arsenal player Paul Merson harshly criticized Arsenal's new midfielder Guimaraes.

Speaking about Guimaraes' performance on Sky Sports' "Soccer Saturday" program, Paul Merson said: "He was too slow, too slow. I said at halftime that he would be substituted, but he played for another fifteen minutes."

"The game got away from him. They pressured him. I don't care how good you are, if they make you put your head down, get in your face and make you run, then it's a level playing field."
