Cristian Gonzalez believes his Inter Miami team were on the end of some bad decisions against the Columbus Crew as their winless stretch in MLS continued. 

Miami were beaten 2-1 by Columbus at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field, with Jamal Thiare scoring the winning goal in the eighth minute of second-half stoppage time. 

Josef Martinez gave the hosts a 28th-minute lead from the penalty spot after Yannick Bright fouled the Venezuelan, but Miami got themselves level five minutes later. 

Lionel Messi curled a wonderful free-kick over Patrick Schulte, but there was to be late drama as Santiago Morales was sent off for a second bookable offence late on. 

And Columbus made their advantage count two minutes after Morales' dismissal, with Thiare tucking home after Brais Mendez's shot was spilled by Rocco Rios Novo. 

Miami have now failed to win their last five MLS matches (D4 L1) since a 7-1 victory against CF Montreal on August 29, though they are still third in the Eastern Conference. 

Gonzalez expressed his displeasure at some of the decisions made against his team, with the Miami boss believing both of Columbus' goals should have been disallowed.

"The truth is that, for me, there are very clear things that happened on the field that I believe should have been given," Gonzalez said. 

"Dani's first play was a handball that should have at least been reviewed by VAR. Prior to their second goal, there was a foul on Rodrigo De Paul which wasn't reviewed either. 

"Not to mention the disallowed goal. The goal, for me, was perfectly legal. I don't have any doubts because I have just seen it, but these are things that happen.

"In favour or against us, today was our turn, from my point of view, with these refereeing mistakes. We just have to move on.

"We have to put up with them and the situation must be reversed. In terms of the game, I think the team played well defensively. The only situations were from the outside. 

"But, I think when it came to creating chances, we had a particularly hard time in the first half. In the second half and being a little shorter, we generated a little bit more. 

"Obviously, we have to improve a lot. I said it in advance, it's not to make excuses, but we had very important casualties, but the guys who have come in have done well.

"So, I repeat, we have to continue and learn from these things. You have to be strong. We have to keep our heads up. These are things that can happen."

Miami are next in action against D.C. United on October 10, with that game the first of seven regular-season matches remaining before the end of their league campaign. 

And they will be hoping Messi can provide more brilliance in the home stretch, as he prepares to play for Argentina for the final time against Benin in early October. 

Messi netted his 12th direct free-kick for Miami in all competitions and his sixth so far this season. He also now has 21 goals in MLS this year, extending his lead at the top of the Golden Boot race to three goals over FC Dallas' Petar Musa.
