According to Sky Sports, Diouf started at left-back in France's match against Belgium and performed brilliantly. France's next opponent is Italy.

Sky Sports reported that Diouf has played in multiple positions for Internazionale and Lens, including central midfield, attacking midfield, and right wing-back. Chivu once taught him how to play as a wing-back, and the French coach adopted this approach, deploying him as a left-back in a four-man defence—essentially an inverted fullback.

Diouf stated that he prefers to play in his natural midfield position but is willing to adapt for the team. He studied fullback positioning by watching videos and performed exceptionally well. Diouf developed in the Rennes academy, just like six other players in this French squad.
