According to Marca, Portuguese journalist Nuno Luz revealed that Ronaldo considered retiring from the national team after the World Cup.

Nuno Luz spoke on Radio Marca's "Tribu" program about the conflict between Ronaldo and Portugal coach Jorge Jesus, as well as their previous communications. He stated that the conflict was not beneficial to anyone and should not mark the end of Ronaldo's relationship with the Portuguese national team. Nuno Luz also revealed that he had spoken with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, who was very displeased with the situation and believed it should not end this way, given Ronaldo's special history with the national team.
Nuno Luz disclosed that Ronaldo had considered ending his national team career after the World Cup. He said, "After the World Cup, Cristiano had decided in his mind that he wouldn't return to the national team; that was the end."
Subsequently, Jorge Jesus tried to persuade Ronaldo to continue playing for Portugal. Nuno Luz stated that throughout the summer, Jorge Jesus called Ronaldo daily, saying the plan required his participation. Jesus also met with Ronaldo at his home in Cascais, accompanied by the president of the Portuguese Football Federation.
The two parties eventually reached an agreement: Ronaldo wanted to play in the first match against Wales and the final home game against Norway on Sunday.
Nuno Luz said the problem arose on the day of the match. Jorge Jesus called Ronaldo that morning, informing him of a change in plans, stating that Ronaldo would play for 30 minutes. Nuno Luz believed that the coach should not have promised 30 minutes of playing time without starting the player. As the game progressed, the situation on the field changed, and the team needed to hold onto a 2-1 lead.
An urgent meeting
Ronaldo's dissatisfaction eventually led to an urgent meeting. Nuno Luz revealed that the president of the Portuguese Football Federation rushed to the stadium, and the three then met.
Nuno Luz stated that all three believed the national team came first and decided to resolve the matter. According to him, Jorge Jesus admitted he shouldn't have promised Ronaldo 30 minutes of playing time, and Ronaldo accepted that he should support his teammates, with both parties temporarily reaching a consensus.
However, the conflict resurfaced later. Nuno Luz said that Ronaldo listened to the coach's press conference from inside the stadium, expecting Jorge Jesus to address the issue, but the coach ultimately did not mention it.
Nuno Luz believes that the story of Ronaldo and the Portuguese national team should not end this way. He stated that Ronaldo deserves a tribute match and a farewell match.
Regarding when Ronaldo would respond, Nuno Luz believes it's not the right time yet. He expects Ronaldo to speak out after this international break, adding that Ronaldo had previously said he would tell the truth.
