According to Argentine media outlet LM Neuquén, the friendly match between Argentina and Burkina Faso, originally scheduled for Saturday evening at Estadio Monumental, was at risk of not taking place due to severe travel disruptions affecting the visiting team. Burkina Faso was reportedly stranded in Morocco until the last minute, and several senior national team players were unable to travel to Argentina with the squad. The Football Association urgently called up U23 players to complete the roster.

Although the match's staging was previously in doubt, the Burkina Faso Football Association confirmed that the team has finally departed for Buenos Aires and will participate in the match against Argentina as planned.
However, Burkina Faso's squad has been significantly affected by the disruptions. Reports indicate that several senior national team players are absent from the trip, with only one key senior player expected to feature against Argentina. To bolster the squad, the Burkina Faso FA canceled a friendly match originally planned for their U23 national team and urgently called up several young players to travel to Argentina.
Burkina Faso's schedule is also extremely tight. Flight HFY321, operated by an Airbus A330-203, departed Casablanca at 4 AM Argentina time and is expected to arrive in Buenos Aires at 3:18 PM. This means Burkina Faso will arrive less than six hours before kickoff at Estadio Monumental.
Such a compressed schedule leaves Amir Abdou's team with almost no time to rest and acclimate. After arriving in Buenos Aires, they will need to quickly complete all arrangements before heading to Estadio Monumental for the match.
The travel problems stemmed from the cancellation of a flight originally scheduled to transport the Burkina Faso delegation on September 30. The team had been in Morocco for an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier and remained stranded there until just before the match, when their transport to Argentina was finally arranged.
In addition to travel difficulties, several Burkina Faso senior national team players are absent. The Burkina Faso FA stated: "Facing this match, national team coach Amir Abdou has had to assemble a squad without several key players who did not travel with the team. However, there is no doubt that we must accept this challenge."
Under these circumstances, Burkina Faso urgently called up players from their U23 national team. These young players were originally preparing for a friendly match against Mali the following Monday, but that match was subsequently canceled, and several of them joined the delegation traveling to Argentina instead.
The Burkina Faso FA stated that this can also be viewed as an opportunity for young players to showcase themselves on the international stage and represent their country.
Meanwhile, the financial terms of this friendly match have also sparked controversy within Burkina Faso.
Burkina Faso sports media outlet Faso Sports reported that the terms offered by the Argentine Football Association for the match, via Eurodata Sport Ltd—a company managed by FIFA agent Jairo Pachón—were considered unfavorable by the Burkina Faso side.
According to the report, Argentina covered accommodation, transportation, and related expenses but did not pay Burkina Faso a match fee for participating in the friendly, nor would Burkina Faso receive a share of match revenue.
These financial terms reportedly caused discontent among Burkina Faso players and management. According to sources in the country, some senior national team players even refused to travel to Argentina because of this.
Disagreements over financial terms, the absence of multiple senior national team players, and the cancellation of the original flight led to speculation in recent hours that the friendly match might not take place.
Ultimately, the Burkina Faso FA confirmed that the team has departed and reiterated that they will participate in the match in Buenos Aires.
The Burkina Faso FA stated: "Facing Argentina, the challenge is immense, but our determination remains unchanged."
Despite a series of pre-match issues including travel disruptions, player absences, and last-minute call-ups of U23 players, Amir Abdou and his squad will still head to Estadio Monumental as planned to represent Burkina Faso against Argentina.
