In an interview at the Trento Sports Festival, Sneijder reflected on Inter Milan's treble-winning season and opened up about his decline in form following the deaths of his parents.

"It was a special year," Sneijder said. "Mourinho called me and said I was the missing piece his team needed, and that we would win together. A few months later, I understood why. Soon after I arrived at Inter Milan, the team beat AC Milan 4-0."

Speaking about former teammates Cristian Chivu and Javier Zanetti, Sneijder shared: "My dream was to debut and play in the Champions League. Ajax was fantastic, and a young Chivu was already a leader. Christian and I knew each other from childhood, and I really respected him." He also recalled that Inter Milan's dressing room atmosphere was relaxed, but Zanetti was always the first to arrive and last to leave, drinking only water. Once, Zanetti even celebrated with a Coca-Cola after a victory.

Discussing the 2010 Champions League final, Sneijder said: "We were certain we would win, thanks to Mourinho. I knew we would win—I just didn't know by how many goals. I didn't expect Mourinho to leave that night. He was exceptional in psychological terms." Sneijder also recalled an incident after Maicon was suspended: rather than scold him, Mourinho sent him back to Brazil for two weeks.

Sneijder also touched on the 2010 World Cup final and the Ballon d'Or: "Casillas's save was unfortunate; without it, we would have won. I didn't care about the Ballon d'Or; winning the Champions League with Inter Milan and achieving a historic treble was enough." He noted that after Mourinho left, he and Samuel Eto'o felt something had changed in the team. A few seasons later, Inter Milan decided to cut his wages, and the two sides couldn't continue their partnership.

After retiring, Sneijder chose not to return to football. He shared that his mother passed away not long after falling ill, and his father died shortly after. He spent three years focusing on family, a very difficult period during which he gained considerable weight and lost his fitness. He is now working on his recovery and has participated in the reality TV show "Football Island," where 11 former Dutch players competed in football on an island with limited food.
