Dwight Yorke, a Manchester United treble winner, has questioned how Carrick is handling Sesko during his tenure at Old Trafford in the 2026-27 season.

Sesko has made 6 appearances across all competitions this season and has already scored 2 goals for Manchester United.

The 23-year-old Slovenian striker has been sidelined by a recurrent shin injury from last season, which forced him to miss Manchester United's preseason tour.

This season, Carrick has been gradually reintegrating Sesko into the Manchester United squad, and the Slovenian international has frequently moved in and out of the starting lineup.

When Sesko is unavailable, Carrick typically deploys Cunha or Mbeumo as the lone striker.

If Sesko is absent and Carrick needs an alternative forward, Zirkzee is also an option.

Although Carrick has preferred Mbeumo to lead the attack, Sesko impressed during the second half of the 2025-26 Premier League season. The former RB Leipzig striker, who joined Old Trafford last summer, made a significant impact when introduced from the bench during Carrick's interim period.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Yorke expressed his bewilderment at why Carrick doesn't start Sesko when he is fully fit. The 54-year-old Manchester United legend added that Sesko "works very hard" and can offer a lot to Manchester United as the primary striker.

"I don't understand why Sesko isn't playing," Yorke said.

"I know he's injured now, but you have to play this guy at number 9. I think, Ally (McCoist), you yourself have played at number 9, and I think you have to back this kid. He has all the qualities needed.

"Yes, he scores when coming off the bench and all that, but you have to push him forward, let other players play around him and utilize him, because he's very difficult to play against. He works very hard, and for me, it's a bit concerning because he hasn't really given Sesko the chance to truly lead the line."

Due to his recurrent shin injury, Sesko missed Manchester United's 1-1 draw against 10-man Tottenham in the Premier League last weekend, and he was also absent from Manchester United's match against Atlético Madrid.
