England were held to a draw in their second group game of the European Under-19 Championships against Ukraine in Seinajoki on Friday.

Both teams came into the game on the back of opening round victories and it was Paul Simpson's side who struck first through Marcus Tavernier before Vladyslav Supriaha levelled just before the break.

The draw means England and Ukraine must now avoid defeat in their final group matches on Monday in order to progress to the semi-finals.

England started brightly and made a crucial breakthrough inside eight minutes.

Elliot Embleton's corner was not cleared by Ukraine goalkeeper Vladyslav Kucheruk and it fell to Tavernier who struck a powerful half-volley into the far corner.

The Three Lions were unable to take their slim advantage into the break though as their European rivals drew level five minutes before half-time.

A lofted delivery into the penalty area was brought down by Supriaha before he held off the challenge of Trevoh Chalobah, swivelled and fired a devastating finish past a helpless Ellery Balcombe.

Both sides had chances to snatch all three points after half-time but it was England who came closest through Adam Lewis.

George Hirst put Lewis' delivery into the back of the net, only for the official to rule it out for offside. Lewis then had a go himself but his effort was palmed away by Kucheruk.
