FC Vizela, a modest Portuguese club, have announced via social media the 'signing' of Gerard Pique. The announcement came from their Facebook page, with a photograph of the Barcelona defender signing the club's shirt.

"We have a new fan who will support us as we bid for promotion! Thanks @3gerardpique!" was the comment which came with the photo.

It's a signing which led to a lot of noise on social media and in the Portuguese press, who are looking for the reason why the Barça man has struck up this relationship with the club.

FC Vizela currently lead Portugal's Serie A. Their objective this season is to gain promotion to the second tier of Portuguese football next year.

This weekend, FC Vizela, with Pique's support, will play away against Fafe. After nine games, they have 23 points.
