Sweden boss Graham Potter has backed Viktor Gyokeres to "continue to be a top player", despite a difficult start to the 2026-27 season with Arsenal.

Gyokeres has made just four appearances across all competitions for the Gunners this season after Kai Havertz's impressive start to the campaign.

The 28-year-old came off the bench in Arsenal's Community Shield win over Manchester City and played the final 12 minutes in their victory over Chelsea, which has been his only appearance in the Premier League so far.

He made starts against Napoli in the Champions League and Ipswich Town in the EFL Cup, though failed to score in either game.

Gyokeres did not record any shots against Napoli, but did create four chances, while his only attempt against Ipswich was a tame effort straight at the goalkeeper.

He has been called up to the Sweden squad for their Nations League games, and Potter insists they will do what they can to get the best of the striker.

"Things happen. It goes up and down, just like it does in life. He is a Premier League winner," Potter explained, as cited by Fotbollskanalen.

"He scored many goals as a number nine for Arsenal. He was incredible in the qualifiers and also had a good World Cup.

"Players at this level will always get criticism at some point. But there is no problem here. We love Viktor. He enjoys being here.

"We will create the best conditions for him so that he can continue to be a top player. Sometimes a change of environment can help a player, and we all look forward to having Viktor with us. We will help him enjoy his football."

Sweden face Romania twice in the upcoming international break, either side of hosting Poland and travelling to Bosnia-Herzegovina.
