Bayern Munich supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told the Münchner Abendzeitung that the club already has several options in attacking midfield and currently sees no need to pay a premium price for Wirtz, though he did not completely rule out the possibility in the future.

When asked whether Bayern Munich would pursue Wirtz again after failing to sign him in spring 2025, Rummenigge said, "First of all, that's not my responsibility." He emphasized that transfer matters are handled by the club's board of directors.

On the squad's options for that position, Rummenigge said, "And don't forget, both Musiala and Gnabry can play there, and we have other alternatives like Sabitzer. There's no need to sign a fourth player for that position at the price Wirtz might demand. So I say, every player must think carefully before making each decision."

When asked if he was surprised by Wirtz's struggles at Liverpool, Rummenigge said, "To be honest, yes. We had the impression at the time that he joined Liverpool because then-manager Arne Slot promised him the attacking midfield role, where he played at Leverkusen. That was an important factor in his decision. The financial package wasn't significantly different. He made his choice, and we respected it."

Slot has since departed Liverpool. Wirtz has been deployed on the wing several times with disappointing results and has struggled to find form under new manager Andoni Iraola.

Asked if there remained a possibility of signing Wirtz in the future, Rummenigge said, "As for whether other opportunities might emerge down the line? I don't know. The question is whether Wirtz is happy at Liverpool, and I can't judge that. Uli (Hoeneß) and I were in contact with his parents for a while. In the end, they made a different choice, and we respect that decision."
