According to Sky Sports journalist Rob Harris, the UK House of Commons Treasury Committee has written to Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC), enquiring about potential tax issues related to the Premier League's investigation into Manchester City.

The UK Parliament website announced on 1 October that the Treasury Committee chairman had written to the Permanent Secretary of HMRC to seek confirmation that the department fully recognised the significance of the matter. The Premier League report, published on 29 September, concluded that Manchester City had committed over 100 breaches of Premier League rules over several seasons.
In the letter, the Committee asked whether HMRC was aware of the investigation's findings and whether it had requested access to the full, unredacted report. Furthermore, the Committee asked HMRC to provide an overview of its work concerning the taxation of player wages at football clubs and other potential tax evasion issues.

Dame Meg Hillier, Chair of the UK House of Commons Treasury Committee, also requested information about HMRC's tax work concerning football clubs in her letter relating to the Manchester City case, requesting a response by 15 October.
Regarding tax issues for football clubs, Hillier stated: "I would also like to understand HMRC's current work programme concerning football clubs more generally. I would be interested to know what common tax issues (including employment tax issues) you encounter in the practical operation of these clubs, and how HMRC addresses these issues."
Regarding the publication of the letter and response deadline, Hillier stated: "In accordance with the Committee's usual practice, I will publish this letter and, in due course, your response. I would be grateful if you could reply to me by Thursday, 15 October 2024."
