According to Globo Esporte, Brazil is entering its 2030 cycle with 24 out of 26 players having youth national team experience.

Valuing the past is essential to shorten the path and look towards the future. The Brazilian national team is embarking on its 2030 cycle, planning to refresh its squad while also keeping an eye on players accustomed to wearing the yellow jersey. In the first international break after the disappointing FIFA World Cup exit, Carlo Ancelotti gave new players a chance in his call-up, with over 90% of the players having experience in various Brazilian youth national teams.
The success of the Spanish national team under Luis de la Fuente, winning the European Championship and FIFA World Cup, serves as a reference. The Brazilian team believes it is equally crucial to examine itself and value the work already in progress. Since the FIFA World Cup, coaches from all levels of the Brazilian youth national teams have been meeting with the senior team staff. The immediate result of this integration is that 24 of the 26 selected players have already represented the national team in lower age categories.
Raphinha and Lino are the two exceptions in this squad. Among the remaining players, some have represented Brazil from U15 through U23, while others, like Marquinhos, Douglas Santos, and Bruno Guimarães, are Olympic champions. There's also Martinelli, who only participated in U18 training, and Gabriel Bontempo, who was selected for the U20s but was not released by Santos.
André has been called up the most among this group of players. The Manchester United midfielder had already represented Brazil in six age categories before joining the professional ranks: U15, U17, U18, U19, U20, and U23. For most young players, it's not just about playing; many have also won titles with Brazil, which is currently the reigning champion of both the U17 and U20 South American Championships.
All 24 players have received guidance from four-time World Cup winner Branco. Branco is in his second stint as the Brazilian Football Confederation's youth coordinator, a position he has held since 2018. He spoke about the closer ties with the senior team since Ancelotti's arrival.
"I have great confidence in the work we want to promote in the Brazilian national team's youth categories. We have a very professional observation and analysis department. Ancelotti will receive a lot of information and options to calmly carry out this generational change. In this first call-up after the FIFA World Cup, most players have solid youth team experience. Many have also won important titles in the South American Championships and during Olympic cycles. They are accustomed to wearing the yellow jersey and understand the magnitude of that responsibility."
The Brazilian Football Confederation has been increasing its focus on the development of young local players, with national team director Cícero Souza being one of the main drivers of cooperation between clubs and state federations. Branco is also one of the leaders of this effort and emphasized the importance of this direct communication:
"We work closely with the clubs because they are the ones who truly develop the players. Together, we need to address shortcomings and re-educate players according to our DNA. This is a continuous process that requires a high degree of integration between coaching staffs."
"Because I know the national team and Brazilian football so well, I have the responsibility to understand the phase we are going through and to take on the responsibility of responding to the fans. It's complex, but it's my mission. I want to thank Ancelotti and his coaching staff for this call-up, which is full of opportunities and complete trust in the youth system."
National team director Rodrigo Caetano is responsible for coordinating all of this, and he values a deeper understanding of each young player's characteristics. The goal is not only to focus on those who have already been in the national team but also to identify and track players with potential.
"We discuss player types, behaviors, and how to get closer to the clubs... tracking these players, the senior national team, and especially the youth teams, is very important."
"This is one of the biggest achievements of the integration. This way, we know where the talent is, who they are, and we can build a database with more options."
Jair, the 2025 U20 South American Championship winner, along with Arthur Dias, Breno Bidon, and Rayan, emphasizes that youth team experience helps players "break the ice" when moving up to professional teams. Despite the different levels, wearing the Brazilian jersey is no longer unfamiliar:
"Coming to the Brazilian senior national team is a very unique, very special moment. Going through the youth team phase is very important. Not just playing, but also winning championships. I feel like I can bring the rich experience I've gained in these matches. This helps me a lot and will certainly make it easier for me to maintain my form."
With 24 players with youth team experience called up, Brazil will face India on Saturday during the FIFA International Match Day. The match will be played in Kolkata on November 14th at 1:30 PM IST (8:00 AM GMT). In the previous two matches against Australia, Ancelotti used 25 players, and goalkeeper Pedro Morrisco has already been confirmed to start against India.
