According to Spanish media outlet AS, despite Sergio Martínez not yet making an appearance for Real Madrid's first team in official matches since joining the club, José Mourinho, the team's coach, continues to closely monitor the development of this promising midfielder. Real Madrid is pleased with Martínez's adaptation to Real Madrid Castilla and his recent performances.

This summer, Real Madrid signed Martínez from Racing Santander for €3 million. Although the first team's activities have slowed due to the international break, Mourinho's interest in the young midfielder has not diminished. Last Friday evening, he traveled to watch Real Madrid Castilla's match against Atlético Madrid Castilla at the Alfredo di Stéfano stadium himself.

Martínez's performance in that match was consistent but not particularly standout, contrasting with his better displays earlier in the UEFA U-20 Intercontinental Cup against Santiago Wanderers at the Santiago Bernabéu, which drew over 50,000 spectators. José Mourinho also attended that match to observe Martínez and other Real Madrid youth players.

In fact, Martínez's primary role since joining Real Madrid is to play for Real Madrid Castilla, but he has been promised that the first team will continue to monitor his progress and provide opportunities to play at a higher level.

Before joining Real Madrid, Martínez had displayed outstanding talent at Racing Santander, where he had played for a long time. As a result, it initially seemed puzzling to outsiders why he would choose to join Real Madrid Castilla, which competes in Spain's third division, effectively a step down.

However, Martínez understood that the opportunity to join Real Madrid might come only once, and he knew that José Mourinho would seriously evaluate his performances.

AS believes that since Toni Kroos's departure, Real Madrid has lacked a midfielder of Martínez's profile in certain phases of play. While there may not currently be a suitable position for him in the first team, opportunities sometimes arise unexpectedly, and Real Madrid's history is filled with such examples, most notably Raúl.

In fact, when Martínez first joined Real Madrid, José Mourinho demonstrated just how much he valued this player. His first two training sessions at Valdebebas were with the first team, after which he was included in the squad list for Real Madrid's away match against Real Betis.

At that time, Mourinho mentioned the new signing in a press conference: "Tomorrow he will be on the bench, which will give you a rough idea of our plans. We analyzed him and offered our thoughts before signing him."

Mourinho continued: "He is a promising young player with experience in the Segunda División B and has played for Racing Santander earlier this season. He has potential but still needs to work hard. The quality and intensity of the game here are different, but he has arrived now."

Regarding whether Martínez would make his debut in the first team, Mourinho said at the time: "As for whether he will play or not, we'll have to wait and see, but simply being able to travel with us for a match is a good first step in itself."

Ultimately, Martínez did not get playing time in the Betis match, possibly due to the circumstances of that game. Although Real Madrid performed well overall, they missed numerous scoring opportunities and ultimately lost.

Later, as José Mourinho had more midfielders available, Martínez was no longer included in the first team squad.

Nevertheless, Real Madrid internally continues to hold high regard for Martínez's rapid development and his adaptation to the club and Real Madrid Castilla. After all, Real Madrid Castilla is currently his main team, and he has gradually become an indispensable member of it.

To date, Martínez has made 5 appearances for Real Madrid Castilla, starting in the last 4 consecutive matches. For this young midfielder, he is steadily progressing through his development steps, and José Mourinho continues to closely follow his progress.
