According to Sport, Fàbregas stated in an interview that his recruitment criteria focus on finding ambitious young players who aspire to play for Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Fàbregas is undoubtedly one of the most talked-about coaches in European football. Como has continued to impress in Serie A and even made a stunning Champions League debut with a 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig. Fàbregas, from Arenys de Mar, has made rapid progress in his coaching career, and in recent days he has returned to the spotlight due to release clauses in his contract related to Barcelona, Arsenal, and Chelsea. According to Sky Sports, these clauses were included in his latest contract extension with the Italian club.

This past weekend, Fàbregas was one of the central figures at the "Trento Sports Festival 2026" organized by La Gazzetta dello Sport. His statements clearly show that, at least for now, he is fully focused on his project at Como and has no intention of changing clubs. When asked about the prospects of the young players he has developed at the Lombardy club, the Catalan coach stated that examples like Da Cunha and Nico Paz represent "greater victories than any individual trophy" for him.

"I am a reflective person, meaning I analyze many things carefully. I know that the best coaches, at the end of their careers, will be remembered for how many trophies they won. That's fair. However, for example, Da Cunha—for me as a coach—this feels more like a victory than winning an individual trophy. I know many players came to Como because of me, and I say this not out of arrogance. They trust me. Everyone can see Nico Paz now; he's already playing for Argentina's national team, but two years ago when he came here, he was still with Real Madrid Castilla, and his father placed all his trust in me. Valle, Perrone, Da Cunha, and many others—I can say the same about them. When I see them, I feel indebted to them because they trusted me, and I must give them all my energy. I value this position," he said.

Fàbregas's contract runs until June 30, 2028, and although no one asked about his future, his words suggest he has no intention of changing clubs, at least for now. "We are building our own academy, and this system has only recently started to develop the right structure over the past two years. It takes time to develop players that fit our identity," he said when discussing the limited number of Italian players in Como's squad. "Currently, we have 3 Italian U16 players, 3 U17 players, 3 U18 players, and so on. We hope to develop them over time."

Fàbregas also reflected on his decision to join the Lombardy club: "My story with Como began in an interesting way. When my contract with Monaco ended, I received several offers. Then I communicated with Como, and they explained their project to me, which I felt was the right choice. Sometimes people make decisions based on intuition. I often visited Como with my wife and family, and at that time, I didn't even know there was a football club there. After they presented the project to me, I began researching the club's history and its relationship with the city and the fans. In recent years, there has been a complete transformation here."

Next, the former Catalan player outlined his football philosophy. "If I lose, I want to lose my way. I always prepare for matches, allowing my team to play with their own style, because if you lose a match in a way that differs from your philosophy, that's a double failure. We will prepare for matches according to our own ideas, philosophy, and identity, and then go into the game. Sometimes, the opponent will be stronger than you. In this process, you also improve," he said.

He also spoke very candidly about his recruitment criteria. "I always tell the club that I want ambitious young players who dream of playing for teams like Real Madrid and Barcelona. I would rather have a player with slightly less talent but great ambition and desire to have an outstanding career than someone who already has a track record and has already earned enough money," he concluded.
