According to TuttoMercatoWeb, former Juventus defender Paolo Montero stated that Kenan Yıldız has the potential to become one of the best players in the world, and that he himself would not return to Juventus.

Montero, currently a coach, was interviewed by TuttoMercatoWeb on the sidelines of the event for the 25 finalists of the 2026 European Golden Boy award in Mestre, Venice. Montero said: "I always miss the pitch; that's where I grew up. As I always say, the pitch is our territory and a part of us, reflecting how we understand life. What I miss most is sharing all of this with a group of people."
Montero's son, Alfonso, was also among the nominees. Montero said: "He's in great form and very happy. We're currently in the international break, and Spalletti has called up several Juventus Next Gen and youth team players. This is important because they can see how first-team players train and gain experience. They can also learn about the life of first-team players at the Continassa training center. These experiences are very helpful for young players. If you are willing to listen—that is, to remain humble—these experiences will help you."
Speaking about Juventus's emphasis on young players, Montero said: "I am very confident. We all know what kind of coach Spalletti is, and I hope he continues to push his plan forward. There are many players born in 2007 in Juventus Next Gen, and they will play against some players who have played in Serie A or spent many years in Serie B. These opponents are experienced professionals. This experience helps young players grow on the field, but the most important thing is to be patient, not to repeat the same mistakes but to make new ones. Otherwise, you are a fool, as Ettore Messina said."
He added: "I come from South America, from Uruguay. There, clubs have to sell players when they are 18 or 19 years old to survive. Therefore, young players must be allowed to grow while making mistakes."
Regarding Yıldız's growth and future, Montero said: "I coached him in the youth team, and even then, I could see his mentality—he was destined to quickly join the first team. His talent is innate, but he is humble, willing to listen, and always trains with full effort. He always asks questions. I always tell my son Alfonso the same thing: no one is born knowing everything. Some things were taught to me by great teammates, coaches, or family. He was born in 2005 but has been playing at a high level for years. His ceiling is determined by himself. I expect him to become one of the best players in the world."
Speaking about Juventus's current situation, Montero said: "I watched them play against Atalanta at the Allianz Stadium, and they are improving little by little as the season is just beginning. I hope they can fight until the end to achieve their goals, because when you wear such a heavy jersey..."
When asked if he would return to Juventus in the future, Montero said: "No, I've already been there. I had an opportunity once, and they treated me very well, but now I'm looking for work elsewhere."
