Inter defender M. Akanji spoke to SRF after Switzerland's 3:0 victory over North Macedonia, discussing his performance and captaincy duties.
Akanji said: "Today wasn't our best performance, but we still won 3:0. North Macedonia helped us a bit too. It was difficult playing on this pitch; it was very uneven. However, the young players integrated well into the team and made a big contribution."
On his captaincy duties, Akanji stated: "Shaqiri and I discuss many things together, but ultimately the responsibility lies with him. As vice-captain, I try to support him as much as possible. Now this responsibility is completely on me, and I'm trying to embrace it. Shaqiri and I are different people; I solve problems my own way. The main thing is to stay constructive. When Shaqiri is here wearing the captain's armband, I'm happy. When he returns, he will obviously be captain again. Shaqiri and Embolo are expected to return in November. We need our best players to perform at their highest level. Everyone is part of the team, and we hope to continue achieving success together."
