Bayern drew 2-2 with Augsburg in the fifth round of the Bundesliga. After the match, Bayern coach Kompany and Augsburg coach Baum attended the press conference together to answer media questions.

Moderator: Hello everyone, and welcome to the post-match press conference for Augsburg vs. Bayern. First, I'd like to welcome both head coaches, Kompany and Manuel Baum. And of course, a warm welcome to everyone present. Mr. Kompany, how do you evaluate this match?

Kompany: We could actually go straight to the questions, but... yes, it was a very eventful match.
Moderator: So Manuel, why don't you start?
Baum: Shall I say the same thing? Then I'll add a few words. Scoring within 8 seconds of kickoff is truly incredible. I think everyone was still processing it when the ball was already in the net.
But putting aside the result, I think it's always very important to assess the overall level of performance shown by the team. Our defense in the first half was impeccable. Against a strong opponent like Bayern, we managed to defend closely together, especially when they were looking for one-on-one duels, showcasing individual skill, or making deep runs. Our formation remained very compact, making it difficult for them to find breakthroughs, and we constantly looked for opportunities to counter-attack. This part was executed very well.
In the second half, especially after the 70th minute, it was clear that our stamina was starting to run out. The situation was truly brutal, with wave after wave of Bayern attacks pouring into our box, leading to us conceding two goals. Furthermore, four goals were disallowed for offside—a situation I haven't experienced before. In such circumstances, you definitely need a bit of luck. But I think the most outstanding aspect of the team today was that we gave our all in every challenge, and the players were constantly communicating and covering for each other.
Another point especially worth commending is that when we were pegged back to 1-1, the team didn't collapse but continued to fight bravely. Therefore, I think the whole team put in an excellent performance today, and the fans were treated to a spectacle. That's my personal opinion.
Kompany: And the lads executed the offside trap beautifully.
Moderator: Thank you, Manuel. Now we'll move on to questions.
Reporter: I have a question for both coaches. Regarding the disallowed equalizer, Stanišić was in an extremely marginal offside position. However, there was also debate about whether it should have counted as a new attacking phase or if the defensive clearance was effective. What are your thoughts on that decision?
Baum: Offside is offside. There's no need to complicate something that is simple. At that moment, I didn't feel there was any connection between the different elements, but if we had been equalized at that point, I probably would have rushed onto the field to protest. Today was one of those games where all the decisions were razor-thin and full of minute details. Of course, we also have to take some responsibility for certain defensive situations.
As I said, the most important thing is that we provided a brilliant match for the audience. I believe the away fans definitely made the trip for good reason today; they cheered and celebrated six times, even though only two counted on the scoreboard. But it was still a passionate game, and that's ultimately what matters most.
Kompany: I haven't reviewed the video of that incident yet. I believe the referee made a decision on the spot, and that's the end of it—it's that simple.
Reporter: Two questions for both coaches. First for Mr. Baum, you mentioned on Thursday that you were still deciding whether to start or bench a center-back. What factors ultimately led to that decision? How would you assess his performance today? Then for Mr. Kompany, setting aside Neuer's mistake that everyone saw and can happen in a match, the team will play their next game on an artificial pitch on Tuesday. Is there currently a preference to use a reserve goalkeeper for that match?
Kompany: I won't comment on that for now. We just finished this game, and our focus was entirely on Augsburg. We will further evaluate the schedule for the upcoming matches. At the moment, I have nothing I can disclose.
Baum: Regarding the lineup, I didn't want to make too many changes in the three-at-the-back system; I only wanted to make like-for-like substitutions, which was the main consideration. As for other aspects, I never evaluate individual players separately after a match. I believe this was a high-level game with the whole team working together, regardless of who started or came off the bench.
Gouweleeuw once again demonstrated the role of an experienced veteran, resolving crises in dangerous situations multiple times with his rich experience. Therefore, I believe there's no need to single out anyone for praise today; everyone's performance was very commendable.
Reporter: Mr. Kompany, my colleague just mentioned Neuer's mistake. This kind of mistake rarely happens with Neuer, but as a coach on the sidelines, what was your reaction when you saw that goal conceded in the very first minute? What thoughts flashed through your mind?

Kompany: I thought nothing at all; I turned my head to the other side at that moment. That's the truth. I've been a player myself and I know exactly what it's like; such mistakes just happen in football. The feeling after conceding such a goal cannot be instantly erased, nor can it be sugarcoated.
If it were a 20-year-old goalkeeper making the mistake, the coach might need to do some extra psychological work, telling him to let it go, not dwell on it, focus on the next game, and that if he maintains consistency over ten consecutive matches, people will forget. But you can't play ten matches in one day; it takes time to process.
But Manuel (Neuer) and I are of similar age, and he knows exactly how to adjust and cope. It's unfortunate that a mistake occurred, but as a team, we always stand together, especially in such moments. I don't need to dwell too much on that conceded goal; what's important is that the game is over, and what happens next is what counts. We cannot change past results.
Reporter: Manuel, regarding that opening goal, was that pressing style a tactical idea set by the coaching staff before the match? For example, based on observations of the opponent's passing habits and targeted deployments? Or was it entirely due to the players' on-field instincts? Also, as Augsburg's head coach, you've recently experienced highlights such as players making their national team debuts and breaking club records. How do you view the team's current atmosphere?
Baum: Regarding the first question, pressing forward directly from kickoff and creating quick danger is very common in modern football, especially now with many goalkeepers having excellent footwork and long passes traveling far. This is a regular tactical option. But for the start of the game to be so dramatic today, there certainly was an element of luck involved.
Regarding the second question, life is made up of unforgettable moments. Here at Augsburg, we are currently writing many beautiful stories together. Whether it's the lightning-fast goal in 8 seconds or the tenacious fighting spirit shown today, it's all a strong foundation for the new season. We hope to continue building on this and move forward. A football club represents cohesion and unity. When people walk the streets of the city and have such inspiring topics to discuss, that feeling is very wonderful.
Reporter: Mr. Baum, could you please talk about Braackelmann's performance? He was not only solid defensively today but also pushed forward offensively to participate in creating the second goal. Is having the free center-back actively join the attack a clearly required duty in the team's tactics? How would you evaluate his Bundesliga debut?
Baum: From a tactical perspective, in a three-at-the-back system we often refer to the left or right center-back as a wide center-back. As the name suggests, we place great importance on them making decisive forward runs at the right moment to disrupt the opponent's defensive organization. Braackelmann executed this requirement extremely well today. As I said, the entire team delivered an excellent performance today. I am incredibly proud of the lads and also proud of the enthusiastic atmosphere created in the stadium today.
