According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona is in mourning following the death of Bettina, wife of club legend Ronald Koeman, at the age of 65.
According to Dutch media RTL, Bettina died of breast cancer. Bettina and Ronald have been a close-knit family since their marriage in 1985. They had three children: Tim, Ronald Jr., and Debbie. The family has since grown with grandchildren. Debbie has two children, and Tim also has a son. Bettina cherished spending time with her children and her role as a grandmother.
The football coach's wife had been a strong supporter of the former national team coach for many years. Despite his glamorous and demanding football career, she played an important role behind the scenes: as a partner, mother, and entrepreneur. Bettina ran a cosmetics boutique called "Skins Cosmetics" in Oosterbeek for many years.
In 2010, Bettina was first diagnosed with breast cancer. After recovery, the cancer recurred in 2018. Five years later, she was diagnosed with chronic breast cancer. In multiple interviews, Ronald spoke candidly about the difficult years the family experienced together.
Despite her ongoing health struggles, Bettina maintained a positive and optimistic outlook. "I occasionally have bad periods. But I am a strong woman from Groningen, so I persevere," she said in an interview with RTL Boulevard in the summer of 2025. She also felt she had much to be grateful for. "I have lovely children, lovely grandchildren, and a wonderful husband."
