Ahead of last week's 2-1 Champions League victory over Atlético Madrid, Mac Allister publicly stated he had the opportunity to leave in the summer and openly expressed his disappointment at not being offered a new contract. He scored the winning second goal in that match.

In response, Heskey said: "Mac Allister has to step up on the pitch, because things weren't great before that. You can say a lot, but you also have to act. He's a very talented player—we can all see that—but we didn't see it at Liverpool last season."

"We saw it at the World Cup, but at Liverpool, we didn't see it last season. So instead of complaining about a new contract, he should prove through his performances that he deserves it, and the contract will follow naturally."

"As long as his stats are impressive, a renewal will be a natural outcome. Unfortunately, in today's football, everything comes down to numbers. Liverpool will evaluate and find that no one matches his statistical level.
