Leeds United's unbeaten start to the Premier League season continued despite being held by Crystal Palace in a 0-0 draw at Elland Road.

There was fortune to Leeds' unbeaten record staying intact after Tyrick Mitchell had a second-half goal disallowed for offside against Anan Khalaili following a VAR review.

Palace had the better share of the early chances as Quinten Timber blazed a 25-yard attempt over inside the first six minutes, before Ao Tanaka fired a close-range shot into the stands at the other end.

James Trafford was called into action to deny Daichi Kamada minutes later, while Nico Elvedi had to be alert to prevent Timber’s effort from finding the back of the net midway through a quiet first half.

Palace started the second 45 minutes with more urgency, with Yeremy Pino seeing his 20-yard free-kick parried by Trafford, before Kamada’s shot whistled past the upright.

Mitchell then thought he had scored his third league goal of the season, but his half-volley was ruled out for offside against Khalaili, who strayed beyond the last defender down the right-hand side.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin should have put Daniel Farke’s side ahead in the 56th minute, but the England striker saw his right-footed strike thwarted by Walter Benitez after James Justin's delivery.

There was more frustration for Palace as Chris Richards floated an exquisite delivery to the back post, but Kamada was unable to guide a glancing header into the bottom corner late on.

A stalemate in Yorkshire but Leeds continue upward trajectory

After thrashing Newcastle United 4-1 in their last league encounter, you could not fault Leeds supporters for thinking they would see more of the same here.

However, it was anything but a routine win as Farke's side registered 13 shots, with two on target, for an expected goals (xG) of 1.36. 

The good news for Leeds is that they remain unbeaten in the Premier League across their opening five matches of a season (W2 D3) for the first time since 2001-02.

They are also unbeaten across their last seven top-flight home games (W4 D3), last enjoying a longer run at Elland Road in the competition between January and December 2001 (15 games).

On the other hand, Palace recorded 12 shots with four on target, mustering an xG of 0.74, and may have felt they deserved more than a point.

However, Pierre Sage may be under some pressure, despite their Europa League opening win on Thursday, after the international break if fortunes do not change quickly against lesser opposition.

Among ever-present sides in the Premier League across this calendar year, only Tottenham (18) have picked up fewer points than Palace's 23, albeit that includes Oliver Glasner's tenure.

Sage may point to clear improvements after Palace kept a clean sheet for just the second time across their last 15 away Premier League games, having conceded 2+ goals in seven of their last eight league matches on the road before this clash.
