According to Sport, Real Oviedo opened its El Requexón training facility yesterday to welcome Carlota, a four-year-old girl battling Cockayne Syndrome Type B, an extremely rare neurodegenerative disorder.

Carlota and her family visited the training facility and spent time with the first-team players. On pitch number 4, the girl met Real Oviedo players, played football with them, and took photos with the entire squad.

Real Oviedo also participated in the "Path for Carlota" initiative, which aims to raise awareness about her condition and fundraise to support gene therapy research leading toward future clinical trials. The Spanish Cockayne B Association has been working since 2022 to accelerate the search for solutions. The condition is caused by mutations in the ERCC6 gene.
