Michael Owen, in an exclusive interview with TEAMtalk via Football Betting, stated that Liverpool's decision not to sign a replacement for Curtis Jones, who transferred to Inter Milan, was the correct one.

Owen believes this choice has opened the door for academy youngsters like Jayden Danns and James McConnell to break into the Liverpool first team. He commented: "I think there are some brilliant young players in the squad. It's not a bad thing to trim the squad slightly and let them come through and be tested. The key is not to block their progression."
Owen added: "I don't think Liverpool needs to buy more players to complete the squad. Of course, it would be better if they could sign a player who could make an immediate impact, but I believe the academy players are already capable. When any club wants to strengthen, the challenge is always finding a top player willing to join. I'm more concerned about how much they are willing to spend. The important thing is to get the team functioning again and playing well."
