In the Premier League's sixth round, Chelsea secured a dominant 5-1 home victory over Bournemouth, with 36-year-old Jordan Henderson scoring twice. After the match, Henderson spoke with Sky Sports in an interview, discussing his two goals, his interaction with Palmer before the free-kick, and the team's performance in the game.

Merson: Jordan, Paul Merson here. I just want to say well done, absolutely brilliant performance. I just have one question for you: in your long and illustrious career, have you ever scored more spectacular goals in a single match than these two today?

Henderson: No. (laughs) I don't think so.

Merson: What was going on with that free-kick? How did you end up taking it?

Henderson: We've been practising free-kicks in training for the past few weeks. Austin saw that I was striking the ball cleanly in training, so he had full confidence in me to take it from that perfect angle we'd been working on. I also have to thank Palmer for letting me take that opportunity. I just replicated what I did in training on the pitch and put the ball straight into the top corner.

Host: What exactly did Palmer say to you before you took the free-kick?

Henderson: As I said, we've been practising free-kicks in training, and I'd scored a few. So I think he might have had more confidence in me than I did myself. He asked me: "When you put that ball in the top corner, which corner flag are we going to celebrate at?" I replied: "Let's go to the right-hand corner flag."

Thankfully, the ball went in, and we did indeed run to the corner flag we had discussed to celebrate together.

Host: Two absolutely incredible, brilliant goals. The first one came within the first 66 seconds. You started so quickly. Regarding manager Xabi Alonso's tactical instructions before the match and at halftime, because you started the second half equally sharply, what were the team's tactical directives? How did he ask you to set the tone right from the start of the game?

Henderson: I think in the Premier League, especially when playing at home, it's always crucial to start well, pick up the pace, and get the crowd going. I think we did that today, certainly in the first half and equally in the second half. That's very important because in some other games, whether in the second half or towards the end of the first half, our concentration has occasionally dropped. But today I felt the whole team was much more solid, much more focused and committed for the entire 90 minutes, and we got the reward we deserved.

To be fair, conceding that goal was a slight regret, but overall, we're very happy to get these three points. We'll go back to the training ground and continue to work hard to improve.

Clinton Morrison: Jordan, Clinton here. Well done, mate. Can you tell these guys that when you were on loan at Coventry, I taught you how to score a goal like that first one today? They don't believe I played a part in your career.

Henderson: Yes, he definitely did teach me. To be fair, he really looked after us back then. We'd occasionally have little disagreements, but it was all good-natured banter. Honestly, he really did look after us; that's the truth.

Host: Jordan, congratulations on your performance today. I just want to ask, after the loss to Brentford, how important is it for you to kick off this next run of fixtures with this kind of momentum?

Henderson: Very important. After losing to Brentford, everyone was obviously very disappointed. But in reviewing the game, I still felt we did some things well in certain aspects. However, overall, we all wanted to improve and get better. The international break came at the perfect time, allowing us to focus on the details we wanted to improve. I feel like we fully translated our efforts from training into today's game and got the reward we deserved. Coming here, performing at a high level, and securing all three points was extremely crucial, and we did just that.
