According to the latest report from Samuel Luckhurst, Manchester United reporter for The Athletic, Manchester United officials have privately admitted that their performance in the summer transfer window was not ideal.

Manchester United reportedly won only one of their first six Premier League matches, marking their worst start to a season in 40 years. They were also eliminated from the League Cup by Brighton, leading to increasing pressure on manager Erik ten Hag. The club's hierarchy is also dissatisfied with the second phase of the team's rebuilding.
Last summer, Manchester United spent £225.2 million to sign Hojlund, Wan-Bissaka, Mount, and Amrabat, but this summer's spending dropped to £155 million. Musiala had been a long-term target for Manchester United.
However, Manchester United insiders admit that some targets like Tielemans and Andrey Santos were "low on the recruitment list." Koopmeiners, Fernandes, Tchouaméni, and Ederson were Manchester United's top choices, but the club failed to complete any of these deals.
Manchester United particularly regrets failing to complete the deal for Ederson because a medical examination revealed significant knee problems, forcing the club to withdraw. The hierarchy also laments not being able to sign a left-back, despite initial contact with Lewis Hall.
