According to Sport, Bosnia and Herzegovina's sporting director Emir Spahic was spotted in the stands at the Johan Cruyff Stadium, scouting Barcelona Atlètic midfielder Mirza Catovic. The 1.93-meter-tall German U20 international could potentially represent Germany, Serbia, or Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Mirza Catovic has been one of the biggest surprises for Barcelona Atlètic this season. The midfielder, on loan from Stuttgart, has impressed in Giuliano Belletti's midfield.
Catovic is a left-footed midfielder with immense potential. Standing at 1.93 meters, his physique and playing style are reminiscent of Marc Bernal. In the matches he has played, he has completely dominated the midfield. His first start was against UD Logroñés B, after which he missed the next match due to suspension and the last two due to being called up to the German U20 national team.
After the international break, Catovic started against SD Logroñés alongside Adam Argemí and Oriol Guiu. The player, who is still contracted to Stuttgart, delivered a very comprehensive performance.
Sport has learned that a scout was present in the stands of the Johan Cruyff Stadium specifically to observe Catovic. Emir Spahic, the sporting director for Bosnia and Herzegovina and former Sevilla player, personally attended to watch Mirza play.
Sport had previously reported that the midfielder could represent Germany, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Catovic, whose family originates from Sanjak, a Muslim-majority region in the Balkans, moved to Germany with his family at a young age, which allows him to represent three countries. Currently, he has only played for Germany's youth teams. Given Spahic's scouting visit, it is possible that relevant steps will be taken soon. The final decision rests with the player himself.
Catovic developed in the Rot-Weiss Frankfurt youth system and was discovered by Stuttgart, one of Germany's major clubs, at the age of 16. He has been with Stuttgart for the past three years. This season, he was initially playing for Stuttgart II, making two appearances in the 3. Liga. Last season, he played 29 matches and scored one goal in Germany's third tier, and the season before that, at just 17 years old, he made 10 appearances.
