On October 12 CET, Spanish newspaper Marca reported that Rodri's €60 million transfer deal represents excellent value, with the midfielder becoming a key player and leader at Barcelona.

Initially, Barcelona had no plans to strengthen their midfield during last summer's transfer window. Both Flick and Deco believed the squad was sufficient for the season. However, in early August, Rodri unexpectedly became available on the market. Real Madrid showed interest, but the midfielder, who wanted to leave Manchester City, preferred Barcelona. Consequently, Barça's sporting leadership began efforts to bring him to Camp Nou.

The deal was not straightforward. Negotiations with Manchester City proved difficult, but ultimately both clubs reached an agreement at €60 million plus add-ons. Barcelona fans warmly welcomed the signing, demonstrating their enthusiasm during his debut at the Trofeu Joan Gamper. They understood that acquiring a Ballon d'Or winner would reinforce the midfield, which had begun showing vulnerabilities due to Frenkie de Jong's injuries.

An Outstanding Investment

After two months of competition, no one doubts the deal was correct, and the €60 million has been spent extremely efficiently. His statistics alone tell the story. In last Saturday's match against Getafe, he delivered an almost perfect performance, controlling the entire match and dictating the team's tempo at all times.

His Statistics

His passing ability is beyond question. This applies not only to last Saturday's match but throughout the season, where he has achieved a 94.5% pass accuracy rate with 489 successful passes. Moreover, he frequently regains possession immediately after losing it, as was evident twice on Saturday. These statistics reassure his teammates, as everyone knows that finding him is the best way to avoid losing the ball.

A Leader

His value to the team extends beyond the pitch. Rodri is also a leader in the dressing room. Despite only recently joining the club, his influence on his teammates, particularly the younger players, is substantial; they regard him as a role model and mentor. Facing the season's biggest objective—winning the Champions League—Rodri's experience will prove invaluable.
