Ahead of Manchester City's Champions League group stage match against Paris Saint-Germain, Semenyo was interviewed by UEFA's official channels, where he discussed his journaling habit.

Semenyo said: "When I was a kid, I used to write down my thoughts and plans every day. I wrote a lot of random things, and as I got older, I started to focus on what I did during the day. A lot of times I would overthink things, and it became a habit. I would manifest everything I wanted to achieve this season and in the years to come, and so far it's worked pretty well."
"I don't really remember why I started journaling, but my mom bought me a big notebook that was originally for homework. It ended up being used for all sorts of random stuff. Some of it might have been casual, like notes, but a lot of it was goals I wanted to achieve. Every goal I've written down, I've achieved. Whenever a new idea comes up, I write it down and look back at it later."
"From the very beginning at Manchester City, I had to understand my own characteristics. The key was to understand the rhythm of the game—when to slow down, when to speed up, when to dribble. Guardiola has been very strict in guiding me on this, and it has helped me a lot. It's definitely helped me because I feel I have a very thorough understanding of the game."
"That's the point of journaling: I've written all of this down, and then I can look back and review it and work towards accomplishing each goal. I play for one of the greatest clubs in the world. We play at our best, I play alongside star players, and I'm constantly improving myself every day."
"Ultimately, this has made me tenacious. I am determined and strong-willed. Anything that stands in my way is just a blurry memory to me; I always stay focused on my goals. If I want something, I will eventually get it."
"I went through many difficult stages at Newport, Bristol, and Sunderland where I wasn't performing well and was often left out of the squad. You need to be strong-willed to get through those times. If you're not strong-willed enough, you'll fall."
