Controversial multi-millionaire former Billericay Town owner Glenn Tamplin has had a wild 24 hours after buying Romford.

Tamplin, who signed Celebrity Big Brother stars Jamie O'Hara and Jermaine Pennant when he famously took over non-league side Billericay in 2016, is now back in the Essex football game.

While at Billericay, he also brought former Premier League player Paul Konchesky in. He held a charity game against a side managed by TOWIE's Mark Wright in 2017 and was followed by BT Sport for a documentary.

After a spell as manager, he decided to leave Billericay earlier this year after claiming that abuse was being aimed at him and his family.

But on Tuesday he bought Romford as he looks to make his mark again.

Tamplin has already dismissed the coaching staff at the Isthmian League North Division club and put himself in charge.

Manager Paul Martin, Mark Lord and the backroom team have all been sacked by the incoming owner.

The eighth-tier side have also brought in 15 new players in the space of a day as they try and push up the table.

Tamplin, 47, claimed to have invested around £3million into Billericay during his time in charge there, improving their New Lodge ground.

He confirmed his involvement with Romford in a tweet on Tuesday evening: 'We have signed 15 new players today and will concentrate on getting off bottom place and working our way back up the league this season to playoffs.

'I truly believe we can go from bottom to promotion play offs this season still.

'COME ON ROMFORD get behind us and let's do this (sic).'

He added in a further tweet: 'I would like to confirm as the new owner of Romford FC that I will be the manager of this side along with a very experienced assistant and coaching staff.

'BE THERE SATURDAY AND SEE THE NEW TEAM AND STAFF.

'I'm here to build us a new stadium & take us to the football league (sic).'

Tamplin did oversee promotions while in charge of Billericay while offering strange motivational techniques, including singing R Kelly's 'The World's Greatest' in the dressing room before a Ryman League Cup final win.

In 2018, Tamplin opened up about his previous cocaine and alcohol abuse after he was involved in an incident with the police, who were told that he had allegedly been seen using cocaine in public toilets.

He was questioned twice over the incident, on one occasion in front of his two young children.

Tamplin told Essex Live: 'I've always said in interviews that I had burnout and I've never said it before but it was cocaine and drink.

'I lost my partner at the time to it and four kids over drug abuse. I also lost my mind and ended up in a mental institution, but that's when I found God.

'When people accuse me of taking cocaine, the truth of the matter is that I've had to go for brain scans and stuff like that for ADHD because I do feel like from my previous drug addiction, there is some sort of damage.

'We don't know yet and we are having stuff done, but I'm so up and down that it could be ADHD.

'When someone touches on a personal subject and something that luckily my five-year-old and ten-year-old boy don't know about, it hits you harder than anything else.

'I didn't see my kids for a long time until I'd had clean tests and I had to fight for them.

'I'd lost weight and I was jittery, but the truth is that I haven't taken cocaine for a very long time or drink.

'No one has ever seen me here with a drink in my hand because I don't drink anymore.

'When you have lost a family because of cocaine - if you are in a car and you're getting stopped about drugs, you're going to take it very personally.

'People don't realise but that is why I reacted like I did.

'When the police stopped me at Woking, I said 'please test me now' because I'm not going to get pulled up while my kids are in the back of the car.

'When I got pulled over, I was expecting the police to say 'can you get out of your car please sir?' but he didn't. He said it through the window while my kids were sitting in the back of the car.

'I have been through the darkness of drug abuse, I've tried to take my life and I've lost my children that I love more than anything in the world, so that's what it was and that is what broke me because it is something that I've been through.'
