Jadon Sancho made the step up from Under 17 to Under 19 level look effortless as he scored the winner against Bulgaria to take England into the next phase of European Championship qualification with a 100 per cent record.

The 17-year-old Borussia Dortmund tyro netted the winner after just 11 minutes in Stara Zagora as England followed up victories over the Faroe Islands and Iceland with another success.

Sancho went with England's Under 17 squad to the recent World Cup in India but was recalled by Dortmund after the group stage in order to make his Bundesliga debut, therefore missing out on their eventual triumph.

Now fast-tracked into Paul Simpson's Under 19 squad, the former Manchester City player is hoping to make amends at next July's Euros in Finland.

With two wins from two so far, Tuesday's meeting between Bulgaria and England was set to decide who would finish top of the group and be seeded when the draw for the Elite Round of qualifying is made in December.

England made a bright start and when captain Mason Mount of Chelsea picked out the run of his club-mate Reece James down the right, they were away.

James managed to prevent the ball going out and deliver a byline cross into the box, where Sancho stooped to head home from close range.

The Young Lions continue to set the tempo and almost doubled their lead when Josh Tymon's cross from the left found Mount at the far post. He was thwarted by Bulgarian goalkeeper Dimirar Sheytanov.

Hosts Bulgaria were brighter after half-time but couldn't muster an equaliser. Their increased attacking intent did, however, leave gaps for England to exploit.

Nottingham Forest striker Ben Brereton was denied by Sheytanov's brave block but Sancho's goal proved enough for another win.
