Newly naturalised striker Bergson da Silva has described his call-up to Malaysia national team as a "dream come true", insisting he embraces the expectation to solve Malaysia's long-standing goalscoring problem.

"I take it as a big, good responsibility, not as pressure," Bergson said during his first national team press briefing,"

"Every step we take in life comes with targets. Being here is another big responsibility for me. I have always wanted to wear this jersey and be with this team. Now it's about enjoying the moment and giving my best."

The Brazilian-born forward, who was only recently naturalised, revealed that representing Malaysia had been on his mind for some time following discussions with team management.

"A few years ago, people began exploring the desire for me to become a national player because of my performances and numbers. From the very first minute, I was excited and said yes," he said.

"Being here is a dream for me, my family, and everyone who has lived through this journey with me over the last five years. Representing this jersey and this country is a pleasure for all of us, and I am grateful to the boss at JDT for supporting me throughout these years to make this possible."

Bergson also revealed that he, along with fellow debutants Manuel Hidalgo and Brad Tapp, shares a common bond and hunger to repay the faith shown in them.

"We share the same ideas. Like me, they never imagined or expected to represent a big country like this after being here for so long. We know what responsibility we carry when we step onto the pitch, and we are ready to give everything."

Looking ahead to Group A, Bergson is expected to make his international debut against Bangladesh on Friday, September 25, followed by matches against Indonesia on September 28 and Singapore on October 1.

Bergson warned that no opponent should be taken lightly. 

"Nowadays, there are no easy games. Every team is tactically and physically strong, and everyone works hard to take points. Bangladesh, Singapore, and Indonesia will all be tough," he said.

"Indonesia is a massive opponent and a special rivalry, but I trust our group. Our goal is to do our best, take the trophy, and bring it back to Malaysia."
