On September 25, the FA announced that Chelsea has been charged with failing to ensure their fans refrained from discriminatory conduct during their away match against Fulham earlier this Premier League season. All sanctions will be announced following a review.

On August 24, following Chelsea's 3-2 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage, the club sent a letter to fans stating they had received reports of "a small number of fans engaging in discriminatory religious chanting."

Chelsea stated that the club has zero tolerance for any discriminatory conduct and warned that supporters found engaging in such behavior would face "the strongest possible action."

An English Football Association spokesperson issued a statement: "Chelsea Football Club has been charged with breaching FA Rule E21. The incident occurred in the 9th minute of the Premier League match against Fulham on August 24.

It is alleged that the club failed to ensure that its spectators and/or supporters refrained from improper conduct, offensive language, insulting gestures, or abusive chanting.

Furthermore, it is alleged that the conduct in question was discriminatory, including references to religion or belief, whether explicit or implicit."

In 2021, Chelsea condemned the actions of a fan when a video circulated on social media showing a supporter directing discriminatory religious language at Aston Villa and Scotland international player John McGinn.

After five matches of this Premier League season, Chelsea has accumulated 7 points and currently sits in 10th place.
