According to Mundo Deportivo, French forward Olivier Giroud revealed why he couldn't join Borussia Dortmund at the time, recalling how his wife prevented him from leaving England in a recently aired interview.

Giroud celebrated his 40th birthday this Wednesday. He revealed in the program that he had considered leaving Arsenal during the January 2018 transfer window, as he wasn't getting enough playing time with the Gunners and needed more minutes to secure a spot in the World Cup squad.
According to the interview cited by the program, the then-Arsenal forward stated that in late January 2018, his wife Jen, who had just given birth to their third child, refused to leave England. He recalled her initial reaction was, "Don't even think about it." Giroud added, "She told me, 'If you take me to another country right now, to Germany, and to Borussia Dortmund of all places, I'll kill you.'"
Ultimately, Giroud signed with Chelsea instead.
