According to Diario AS, Fermín's exceptional attacking instincts against Croatia could make him a viable option for Flick if Raphinha's form dips.

Fermín is a versatile player capable of playing multiple positions. Wearing the number 9 shirt at Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, he validated Spain coach Montoya's assessment: if Ferran and Oyarzabal are unavailable through injury, Fermín can deputize. Raphinha's recurring injury concerns could also prompt Flick to consider this option. Besides a traditional center-forward, few players understand the demands of that position better than Fermín.

Fermín has worn numbers 32, 16, and 7 for Barcelona's senior team, 11 for Barcelona B, and 10 for Linares. He has also worn numbers 8, 19, and 25 for Spain's national team, 11 for the Olympic team, and 19, 14, and 17 for Spain's U21 team. As a skilled playmaker who actively contributes defensively and creates chances, Fermín consistently demonstrates a strong goal-scoring instinct. Against Croatia, he registered four shots in quick succession, one striking the post, and was involved in the crucial play for the 1-0 goal.

Since breaking into Barcelona's first team four seasons ago, Fermín has scored 36 goals and provided 30 assists in 143 appearances, totaling 7,459 minutes played. In terms of goal involvement, he averages one goal or assist every 124 minutes; Olmo averages 127 minutes, Yamal 103 minutes, and Raphinha 82 minutes. The report suggests Fermín has the potential to gradually move further forward in future, showcasing his talent in the penalty area as he matures.

Fermín is a key player for Barcelona but lacks a guaranteed position with Spain's national team. Against Croatia, he didn't expect to start; Olmo, a squad player at club level, currently holds that position for Spain. The report indicates that just as Pedri's deeper positioning allows more technical players to operate simultaneously, Fermín may also move forward occasionally, expanding the team's tactical flexibility.

The arrangements made during Raphinha's absence may inspire Flick's thinking. The report notes that Flick has embraced an approach moving away from traditional pure center-forwards; without Lewandowski, the team can adopt a modern playing style similar to Paris Saint-Germain, where forwards take on greater responsibility beyond being traditional target strikers.
