After Ronaldo's departure from Portugal's national team training camp on Wednesday, many people expressed their support for him in the hours that followed. Rio Ferdinand also defended Ronaldo on social media, calling for more respect for the player.

Ferdinand played alongside Ronaldo at Manchester United from 2003 to 2009. He posted a video discussing the achievements of the Portuguese captain, with the caption: "Long live Ronaldo! Please show respect to Ronaldo."

In the video, Ferdinand said: "What was Portugal's team like before Ronaldo? What did they achieve? Could they even qualify for the finals of major tournaments? What bothers me is that many people judge him on his performances over the last three or four years, during which his statistics have actually been incredible for his age, regardless of which league he was playing in."
