According to The Chronicle, Newcastle officially unveiled its new club crest this week, marking the first change to the badge since 1988. The new crest will make its debut on the team's official match kit on the final home matchday of the 2026/27 season, expected to be May 23, 2026, in a home game against Crystal Palace.

Newcastle has already begun selling official merchandise featuring the new crest to boost the club's commercial revenue. However, kit supplier Adidas will not introduce the new crest on match kits until May 2026.
Meanwhile, Newcastle's current 2026/27 home kit will be phased out at the end of this season. This design, dubbed the "barcode kit" by local media, has received mixed reactions since its launch last summer, and due to lower-than-expected sales, the club is offering members a 25% discount. By contrast, the blue away kit is performing better commercially, as it features the same crest used during Kevin Keegan's time at the club in the 1980s.
Newcastle's Chief Marketing Officer, Steven Taylor, emphasized that fan feedback was central to designing the new crest.

He said: "Retaining the traditional elements of the crest—the castle, shield, and lion—was extremely important to our fans. This was made very clear during the consultation process. However, over 85% of survey participants also recognized that we needed to modernize the crest to ensure it could adapt to future developments."
"We are introducing a completely new visual identity for the club. This is now our official crest, and related signage throughout the stadium will be gradually updated. Digital platforms will reflect the change immediately, and we will also release a limited merchandise collection, allowing fans to purchase limited apparel featuring the new crest."
Taylor added: "The final home matchday of this season will be the first time supporters see the new crest on the pitch."
The report also noted that Adidas's next kit design for Newcastle is expected to return to a traditional black and white striped style.
Newcastle CEO David Hopkinson said: "I have never worked anywhere where there is such a strong sense of pride and passion for the club's crest as there is here. Therefore, this project represents both a great honor and tremendous responsibility for all of us."
"We asked fans questions to which we ourselves didn't have the answers, and they told us very clearly: protect what we have, keep the elements we love, and don't tear it all down and start over."
"Every decision since then has been made within the boundaries our fans set. Therefore, it is only right that the final result belongs to the fans, who have the ultimate say."
Hopkinson concluded: "Our crest originates from the city's coat of arms, and it still does today. It pays homage to our history, represents who we are now, and will be an iconic symbol that unites generations of Newcastle fans around the world for years to come."
