According to Mundo Deportivo, 18-year-old midfielder Pedro Rodriguez from Barcelona has completed his contract renewal. The new agreement runs for four seasons until 2030, with an official announcement from the club expected soon.

Rodriguez's previous contract with Barcelona Atletic was set to expire next summer. His renewal has been a priority for Barcelona's sporting department, as the club sought to secure his future at the academy. Radio Barcelona previously reported that Pedro had signed a new deal, a report that has now been confirmed by Mundo Deportivo.

Pedro made his Barcelona Atletic debut in 2024 under then-reserve team coach Alberto Sanchez, appearing in three matches that season. Under coach Beletti in the following campaign, he featured twice more. This season, he was officially registered with the reserve squad and assigned a fixed squad number. He was not included in the matchday squad for the opening fixture but came on as a substitute in the next three rounds. This past weekend marked a shift, and he became a candidate for a starting position.

Pedro understands that Barcelona Atletic's midfield is well-stocked with talented players, which limits playing time and requires patience. The two-month absence of Pedro Villar due to a hamstring injury could provide Pedro with an opportunity to start. Additionally, Eidubrim Tonkare will need several more days before returning to full training with the squad. Previously, Oriol Goren and Villar were regular midfielders for the team. The Israeli midfielder missed the last match due to international duty and will also sit out Sunday's match against Tudelano. Mirza Katovic is also training with the German national team and will be unavailable. This leaves Beletti with even fewer midfield options; however, he can still deploy Juan Ibarre, Ibrahim Diarra, or Adam Al-Hammi.

Pedro Rodriguez is one of La Masia's most talented prospects, having joined Barcelona's academy in 2019 at age 11. However, with many promising young talents in his generation, he has yet to establish himself permanently in Barcelona Atletic's starting lineup. Despite interest from several leading European clubs in recent seasons, he has chosen to remain at Barcelona.
