According to Tribal Football, Steven Gerrard said he would have stayed at Liverpool had he known that Klopp would become manager.

Gerrard left Liverpool in the summer of 2015 to join LA Galaxy, missing out on Klopp's arrival in October of that year, which marked the beginning of the club's resurgence to prominence.

After just one year with LA Galaxy, Gerrard retired at 36 and began his coaching career.

Klopp did not bring immediate success, finishing eighth in his first season and losing the Europa League and League Cup finals. However, in subsequent years, he has restored the Reds to their best form.

Speaking about playing under Klopp, Gerrard revealed that he would have postponed his retirement to play "heavy metal football" under the German coach.

Gerrard told the audience: "I would sacrifice a lot of things, professionally and personally, just to have that opportunity to play for Klopp."

Gerrard explained: "At the end of my Liverpool career, the club offered me a one-year contract to stay for another season. I had conversations with the staff at Liverpool at the time, and it was more a case of you'd be more of a squad player, your game time would be limited, it wouldn't be as active as I would have liked."

"But if I had known Jurgen was coming for sure, which I didn't know at the time when I was making that decision," Gerrard continued, "if I knew Jurgen was coming, I would have gambled and stayed and tried to impress him, and maybe got that opportunity at the end of my career. But unfortunately, I made the decision to move on. Looking back, I would have stayed and gambled."

Klopp has led Liverpool to eight major trophies, including the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup. Had Gerrard stayed, he might have added more honours to his trophy cabinet, though at 36, his role would likely have been primarily as a substitute.
