Milan will visit Sassuolo for their Serie A Matchday 6 clash at 16:00 UTC (01:00 CET) on October 12. Head coach Amorim attended the pre-match press conference, the second part of which is presented here.

Claudio Raimondi (Sport Mediaset): Hello, Ruben. Yesterday, we had an exclusive interview with Kony De Winter, who said, "You are a very approachable and humane coach; everyone can talk to you at any time." Regarding the defense and the formation adjustments against Lecce, he said, "It was a very correct choice; the coach clearly knows what he's doing." So, I want to ask you: Do you intend to continue using the four-man defensive system? Is this the most suitable tactical framework to support the team's attack right now? As you just said, Ramos needs goals, but other attackers like Pulisic, Moreira, and even Chukwueze also need to score. Is this system the most appropriate choice at the moment?

It depends on the specific match and how the game develops. The most crucial thing is that the players need to clearly understand when we play with a three-man defense and when we play with a four-man defense. In fact, if you carefully observe the starting eleven, you'll find that the player roster is essentially the same group; the only changes are some subtle adjustments on the field – certain runs, certain positions – and these minor adjustments can completely change the team's tactical presentation, which is very critical.
As everyone knows, other Serie A coaches have full video analyses of our matches and know our players very well. Therefore, my job is to create something new, propose new tactical solutions, and thus surprise and defeat our competitors during matches.
The coaches in Serie A are all very high-level. I know what I intend to present on the field tomorrow, but I obviously cannot disclose it publicly here, otherwise Alberto Aquilani would know our tactical plans in advance. But overall, the tactical core has not changed fundamentally. My only wish is for my players to feel comfortable on the field and to play increasingly better football.
Marco Guidi (Gazzetta dello Sport): Good afternoon, coach. Alberto Aquilani said this morning that he greatly admires you for what you achieved at Sporting CP. Given that Aquilani is very young and his coaching career has just begun, how much do you know about him as a coach? Do you remember his time playing for Milan and your encounters with him on the field afterward?
Translator's note: Amorim and Aquilani only faced each other once in their playing careers, in the second leg of the 2009/10 Europa League quarter-finals, when Amorim's Benfica lost 1-4 away to Aquilani's Liverpool. Amorim started and played the full match, while Aquilani came on as a substitute for 2 minutes.
Yes, I certainly remember Aquilani, not only from his time at Sporting CP – when he played under Jorge Jesus, the new Portuguese national team coach who also coached me for seven years – we discussed this, and we will continue to communicate in the future. I clearly remember that Aquilani was an extremely intelligent midfielder during his playing days. In football, it is very common for midfielders to transition into head coaches.
I believe Milan is the best club in the world, not only for players to play but also an excellent platform for transitioning from player to coach. Since I started coaching Milan, I have participated in 5 matches, and almost all of the opponents I encountered in the early rounds were former Milan legends. So, this is definitely the perfect place for players to learn and master the art of coaching.
Regarding Aquilani's coaching style, I can see his very modern tactical philosophy. I can also see the tactical influence Roberto De Zerbi has had on him – for example, his tactical designs when moving center-backs forward to create space for Laurienté and Berardi to attack; you can clearly perceive his tactical intentions. Sassuolo is a team that craves possession, and his tactical choices are very sophisticated, including when to press high and when to drop back into a midfield block. It's clear that throughout his extensive playing career, he has traveled widely and learned many tactical tools, and he is now applying all that accumulated knowledge to his coaching. I firmly believe he has a bright future ahead in his coaching career.
Antonio Vitiello (MilanNews.it / Corriere dello Sport): Hello, coach. You just mentioned that you followed Diego Moreira's matches for the Belgian national team. What insights and tactical information did you gain from his performances in those games? He played in a more advanced position for the national team, appearing on both the left and right wings. In which position do you find his performance most convincing? What insights can you directly apply at Milan?
We have already seen different facets of his game in the national team matches. When he plays on the left, he is a more direct and impactful player; when he is deployed on the right, he tries more to create threats through one-on-one dribbling and tactical combinations with teammates. Therefore, it depends on the opponent he faces.
We noticed that when the Belgian national team faced strong opponents – especially France – he took on a significant amount of defensive responsibility, putting in immense defensive effort in those matches, which is crucial for me. Of course, we all know Diego Moreira's technical qualities and physical condition: he is extremely fast and physically strong. I believe he can pose a huge threat in one-on-one situations. However, he still has room for improvement in his attacking decisions and execution of details, and he needs to continue refining his skills. But there's no doubt that he is a versatile player who can play on both wings, and you will see Moreira operate on both flanks in the future.
