Shakhtar Donetsk CEO Sergei Palkin stated that the club is in discussions with Tottenham Hotspur regarding winger Mykhailo Mudryk's transfer fee.

Shakhtar Donetsk CEO Sergei Palkin expressed hope of reaching an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur over winger Mykhailo Mudryk's transfer fee. After Tottenham's deal with an Israeli player fell through in 2023, the Ukrainian champions threatened legal action. Following the Russia-Ukraine conflict, FIFA regulations allowed foreign players from both nations to suspend their contracts. While Shakhtar valued Mudryk at €20 million (£16.9 million), Tottenham acquired him on a free transfer. Shakhtar originally signed Mudryk from Maccabi Petah Tikva in January 2019 for €6.5 million (£5.5 million).

When asked whether Shakhtar deserves compensation after Tottenham sold Mudryk to West Ham for an initial £5 million this summer, Palkin said: "We have had disagreements and discussions with Tottenham. We had a verbal agreement that they would give us part of any transfer fee if they sold the player. Now we will approach them formally with our proposals and position. If problems arise during these negotiations, we will seek mediation."

"We don't know yet who the mediators will be. It could be the European Club Association or the Court of Arbitration for Sport, depending on the circumstances. If both sides remain friendly and reach an agreement, the matter is settled. An amicable resolution is the best outcome," Palkin added.

Meanwhile, Mudryk, who joined Shakhtar and later transferred to Tottenham for a record fee, has been loaned to Tottenham from Chelsea. He initially joined Shakhtar in 2023 for £61 million before moving to West London.

Palkin remains in close contact with the Ukrainian player. The winger is attempting to revive his career under Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, who previously managed in the Premier League. Palkin stated: "I told him Tottenham is the best choice for him. Postecoglou knows him well. Mudryk was the first to call after we appointed Postecoglou. He knows what Mudryk is capable of. Mudryk has put in everything to regain confidence and engage in top-level training. He is working very hard. I believe he deserves to be praised for that."
