Turkish Football Federation President Ibrahim Hacıosmanoğlu has stated firmly that national team coach Vincenzo Montella will neither resign nor be dismissed following Turkey's disappointing performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Despite being considered one of the tournament's dark horses entering the North American World Cup, Turkey delivered a deeply disappointing campaign. They lost 2-0 to Australia in their opening group match, then suffered a 1-0 defeat to Paraguay—who played with 10 men for the entire second half. The disastrous results rendered their final group stage match against the United States meaningless.

Although Montella recently signed a contract extension through July 2028, the poor results have sparked calls for his resignation or removal.

However, Hacıosmanoğlu addressed the controversy during an interview with reporters before the team's training session.

"Everyone is heartbroken because this was not what we expected from this FIFA World Cup, but our 85 million citizens should know that everyone here did their best and shares their pain.

"Let's not forget that our players brought the team to the World Cup. Most of them are only around 20 years old and may participate in three or four more major tournaments. These are our children, and we must support them.

"We will support the head coach, and we will support the players. This is not a club team, and even at clubs, poor results often stem from a lack of stability. You cannot suddenly replace 15 players with 15 new ones or simply change coaches.

"Over the past two days, media outlets have reported various candidate coaches' names, but those who understand our way of working know we would never abandon those who fought alongside us and seek new people.

"If this coaching staff and these players can achieve good results within two years, we will continue to support them."

When asked whether he had discussed resignation with Montella, Hacıosmanoğlu cut short the questioning.

"I didn't even give him the chance to mention it. We haven't had such a conversation, and there's no reason to give him that opportunity. As the federation president, you must understand the psychology of players and coaches.

"What you need to do is support them, not put them in this position."
