Fabrizio Romano reveals that the player had refused to participate in Chelsea training during his final days at the club.

Romano explained: "Manchester City had long been interested in Enzo. Before the 2022 World Cup, they made contact with the player's representatives, but Enzo wanted to focus entirely on Argentina's World Cup campaign, so negotiations were postponed."
"After the World Cup, Manchester City intensified their pursuit and agreed personal terms with Enzo before opening talks with Chelsea. However, Chelsea initially resisted, rejecting bids up to £120 million. The situation changed when Chelsea realized Enzo no longer wanted to train with the squad."
"In the final four or five days before the summer transfer window closed, Enzo completely withdrew from Chelsea's training. He missed the last two matches and refused to attend training sessions. The atmosphere became very tense."
"This situation triggered alarm bells at Chelsea. The club was reluctant to face another internal conflict – they recalled that Enzo's complimentary comments about Real Madrid the previous season had already caused unrest. In March or April, while still a Chelsea player, he had made remarks about Real Madrid and was subsequently dropped from the squad. Chelsea wanted to avoid repeating that experience. Ultimately, the club decided to sell Enzo for £125 million."
"Though the process was complicated, I believe all parties are satisfied with the outcome: Manchester City secured one of the world's best midfielders; Maresca got the deal done after actively pursuing it since becoming manager; Enzo achieved his goal of joining Manchester City; and Chelsea received a substantial transfer fee."
