Napoli let a lead slip away from home in Serie A once again, as Alex Jimenez's second-half strike secured Fiorentina a 1-1 draw.

Billy Gilmour's brilliant finish had sent Napoli ahead midway through the first half, but the visitors could not find a winner after being pegged back by Jimenez, with David de Gea standing firm.

A cagey start opened up in the 17th minute as Arthur Atta raced past Amir Rrahmani and stretched to reach Franco Mastantuono's throughball but fired against the crossbar.

Just moments later, Nicolo Fagioli took aim from just outside the box, and his dipping strike was pushed against the underside of the crossbar by a relieved Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.

Napoli went straight down the other end to respond, and Mathias Olivera's stooping header crashed against the post before De Gea was called into action to tip his follow-up strike over the bar.

But from the resulting corner, Napoli broke the deadlock. Matteo Politano looped his delivery to the unmarked Gilmour on the edge of the box, and he opened his body to side-foot a volley past the unsighted De Gea 23 minutes in.

Olivera fired wide as Napoli failed to add to their tally before the break, and Fiorentina punished them for that as they equalised six minutes into the second half through Jimenez's lovely long-range strike.

The hosts were then indebted to De Gea, who made two superb reflex saves; a strong hand denied David Neres, who was given too much space on the left of the box, before he pushed Costantino Favasuli's header over the bar after seeing it late.

Allegri sees more points slip out of his grasp

For the second away game in a row, Napoli took the lead, and while they did not lose this game as they did against Inter (2-0 lead in a 3-2 loss), Massimiliano Allegri will still be frustrated that they dropped more points from a winning position.

Napoli were looking to win a fifth straight Serie A match against Fiorentina for just the second time in their history, but they struggled to match their hosts.

They accumulated 1.4 expected goals (xG) but had 12 shots, four fewer than Fiorentina, who stepped up the pressure after the break when they were trailing.

Gilmour's goal was his first in the league in nearly a year, having last netted against Pisa on 22 September 2025.

Olivera was Napoli's surprise outlet as their forwards struggled to get into the game, as he had a team-high four shots as well as six touches in the opposition box. He also created two chances and registered a 100% passing accuracy in the final third (14/14).
