Sunderland's creative midfielder Enzo Le Fee has signed a new five-year contract with the club.

Le Fee joined the Black Cats on loan from Roma in January 2025, with that deal containing a purchase obligation if they were to be promoted from the Championship.

The Frenchman immediately assumed a key role under Regis Le Bris, starting in a 2-1 play-off final victory over Sheffield United, which led to him becoming a permanent Sunderland player for £19m.

And he has continued to shine in the Premier League, making 41 appearances in the competition while scoring six goals and providing seven assists. 

His 13 goal involvements and 61 chances created are both team-high totals since the start of 2025-26, and those figures helped propel Sunderland to a seventh-place finish and Europa League qualification last term.

Last week, Le Fee scored from the penalty spot to secure a 1-0 victory over AZ at the Stadium of Light, in Sunderland's opening match in that competition. 

That made him the Black Cats' first goalscorer in Europe since October 1973, when Micky Horswill scored their second goal in a 2-1 victory at home to Sporting CP in the Cup Winners' Cup, only for the Lisbon giants to recover in the return fixture and progress 3-2 on aggregate. 

"I'm really happy to have signed a new contract with Sunderland," Le Fee told the club's website, having agreed fresh terms to run until 2031. 

"From the moment I arrived, I've felt the passion of the supporters and the ambition of everyone at the club – I've loved my time here.

"We've achieved something special together over the past couple of seasons, but I believe this is just the beginning. 

"I feel very settled here and I'm excited to continue developing, competing at the highest level and helping the club move forward.

"I'm very proud to wear the Sunderland shirt and I can't wait to see what we can achieve together in the years ahead."

Having lost 5-3 to Manchester City in a thrilling encounter prior to the international break, Sunderland have four points from five Premier League games this season, with Brighton their next opponents on October 10.
