A dramatic incident unfolded in the Bolivian second division.  Gustavo Tesonotte, who saves for Wilstermann Cooperativas, from Potosí, in the Bolivian Second Division, refused to save a penalty that he considered unfair. The protest went viral and ended with the referee of the match suspended.

Tesonotte was trained in the youth divisions of Banfield and then went to San Telmo, in the Argentine promotion. He then crossed the border to continue his career in Bolivian soccer, where today he defends the goal of Wilstermann Cooperativas in the middle of the fight for promotion.

The episode occurred in the Simón Bolívar Cup, the tournament that gives promotion to the Bolivian First Division. Wilstermann Cooperativas and Independiente Cochabamba were tied 2-2 when, at minute 93, referee Carlos Arteaga awarded a penalty for the Cochabamba team.

Tesonotte and his companions considered that the lack did not exist. After the complaints, the goalkeeper remained still under the three posts and the opponent converted unopposed. The goal gave the victory to Independiente Cochabamba.

The goalkeeper said that the decision was collective. "We were playing for a qualification to be promoted and that they play us that way did not seem to me, that's why we made the decision," he explained.

On the program "Nadie nos para", of Rock & Pop, he added ironically: "If they want to help the Independiente Cochabamba team so much, that's fine, that they end up winning the game."

As it transpired, he had also asked the rival striker, Junior Adiri, to miss the shot because of the unfairness of the mistake. But Adiri converted.

Later, Tesonotte recounted: "When I complained to him, his words were: 'I only took a penalty'. I told him that it wasn't like that because we are playing for qualification, we are playing for our dream of qualifying". According to his version, the judge replied: "Come on, stop! Stop denying."

The Refereeing Commission of the Bolivian Football Federation decided to suspend Arteaga indefinitely for charging a foul that, according to the resolution, did not exist.

"I think it's the right thing to do, because he can't be so irresponsible to take a penalty that wasn't taken," said the goalkeeper. And he left a request: "It would be good if they implement VAR so that it does not happen again."
