Beth Mead says her transition to Manchester City has been "seamless" after she helped the team extend their perfect start to the Women's Super League.

City were made to work hard for all three points on Saturday but edged to a 1-0 win over Charlton Athletic to make it four wins from four so far.

Alex Greenwood scored the only goal of the game in the first half, bending in a free-kick for her first league goal since April 2024.

Mead more than played her part, though, as she finished with game-high totals for chances created (four), touches (98) and passes in the final third (47). 

"It's a different way of playing [at City from Arsenal]; I've been playing in a different role here for most of the games," Mead told BBC Sport.

"It's a very good team who like to play football, and that's how I like to play. It's been a bit seamless fitting in, but very different players to play with; you have to get used to.

"I'm just trying to do the right things, recover well and go again. I'm trying to play as many minutes as I can. I'm never going to complain about that.

"It was difficult. It's hard off the back of a Champions League game. Charlton were really hard to beat; they defended really well. Our intensity could have been better on the ball, but we got the three points."

City have won each of their first four WSL matches in a season for the first time since 2019-20.

And the Citizens have now won 29 of their 30 games against newly promoted teams, winning eight in a row since a 2-1 loss at Liverpool in 2022-23.

Andree Jeglertz opted to make six changes to his starting line-up from their win over Liverpool last weekend, with Khadija Shaw and Lauren Hemp starting on the bench.

With Women's Champions League matches adding to their schedule, he noted how important it is to be able to shuffle his pack given the quality of his squad.

"It's a good performance; we should have created more scoring chances," he said.

"Sometimes the last pass wasn't there, but there was also players who haven't played together as much. We have rotated a couple of players.

"You can't say a player is a full-back because they need to be able to play in different areas. For me, it's about how can I get the best out of players like Alex Greenwood; sometimes she plays better in different areas."
