According to the Manchester Evening News, Leny Almonds has responded to criticism from Paul Scholes and Roy Keane, discussing how he handles media attention at Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper has established himself as Manchester United's number one since arriving from Anderlecht for £18.2 million over a year ago, but this season he has faced criticism from club legends.

Scholes questioned whether Almonds is the type of goalkeeper Manchester United needs to win the Premier League title. Keane, meanwhile, criticized Almonds for spending time with his family at Old Trafford after the Manchester derby defeat against Manchester City last month.

Following Manchester United's 0-1 loss to Manchester City, Scholes stated: "Have you ever seen a team win the Premier League without a top-class goalkeeper? Almonds could be that type of goalkeeper, I don't know, it might be too early to draw conclusions now. You need a top-class goalkeeper. Think of Alisson at Liverpool, Manchester City's goalkeeper, Raya at Arsenal, and in Manchester United's past, Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar. They all had excellent goalkeepers, and a team must certainly start from the back."

Almonds performed well for Belgium in international matches this week. Regarding criticism from Scholes, Keane, and others, he said: "Playing for Manchester United hasn't changed my personality. You really need to have strong enough mentality and confidence to deal with so many people expressing their opinions. I can imagine it's not easy for many people. I really enjoy playing in these Premier League matches. The Premier League, the Nations League... it makes no difference."

With Courtois temporarily absent from the Belgian squad during the Nations League, Almonds seized the opportunity to prove himself and is expected to solidify his position as Mark van Bommel's number one goalkeeper.

Speaking about Courtois, Almonds said: "We haven't talked much about him. I think it's important to focus on the current matches and the players who are here. I think I'm the number one goalkeeper right now. Most importantly, I need to play well and always be ready. I can't control what the future holds, but I can control my performances."
